What ServiceM8 really costs in the UK

Five plans, £0 to £269 a month, and a card processing bill that is often bigger than the subscription. Here are the real numbers.

A yellow price tag with a pound sign, a blue calculator and a stack of coins, in a bold flat illustration

Short answer. ServiceM8 in the UK runs from £0 to £269 a month across five plans. It is a flat fee for the whole business, not a price per user, and what moves you up the ladder is how many jobs you do a month. The prices exclude VAT. As at 17 August 2026 the plans are Free at £0, Starter £25, Growing £59, Premium £119 and Premium Plus £269.

That took a lot longer to establish than it should have, and the reason is worth two minutes of your time.

Nearly every price you have been shown is in the wrong currency

Go and search for what ServiceM8 costs from a UK connection and look at what comes back.

Google's own AI answer, the box at the top written by Google rather than by anybody selling anything, currently tells a British searcher that ServiceM8 costs between $0 and $349 per month. Dollars. The top organic result is ServiceM8's genuine UK pricing page, which is entirely in pounds and entirely correct, but Google renders its title as "Pricing | ServiceM8 NZ" and quotes New Zealand dollars in the preview. The third result is ServiceM8's Australian comparison table, in Australian cents. Two of the big software directories list ServiceM8 at US$0.00 and A$0.00 a month.

Then there are the third parties. One UK page still opens by telling you the cheapest plan is "Lite, at only £8 a month", which has not existed for a long while, and it does not mention the free plan at all. Another has the whole ladder at £9 to £89. None of them carry a date.

So here are the real numbers, read off ServiceM8's UK page on the day of writing.

Extra texts are 5p on every plan. There is no annual plan and no annual discount, so monthly is the only way to buy it.

Jobs work differently and it catches people out. If you go over your allowance, ServiceM8 lets you carry on as normal for another seven days. If your billing month resets inside that window, your job credits reset and you are fine. If it does not, you get prompted to upgrade. Only Premium Plus publishes a price for extra jobs, at 15p each. On Starter, Growing and Premium you cannot top up, so a couple of unusually busy months is an argument for the next plan rather than a small extra charge.

One oddity worth knowing. Premium Plus adds no features at all over Premium. The only difference is volume, 1,500 jobs instead of 500. So if you are being pushed toward £269 and you are nowhere near 500 jobs a month, something has gone wrong with the advice you are getting.

It is not priced per user, and that is the whole point

Most software in this category charges per head. Tradify, the closest UK rival, is £34 to £44 per user per month. ServiceM8 does not do that on any paid plan. Their own FAQ puts it bluntly: "No, we don't charge per user."

What that means in practice. A ten van firm on Premium pays £119 a month, and that is the whole bill no matter how many logins it hands out. The office gets a login. The apprentice gets a login. Your bookkeeper gets a login. Same £119.

Put ten people on a £37 per head product and the licences alone come to £370 a month before anything else. Same work, same jobs, triple the bill, purely because you employ people.

That is the argument for ServiceM8 in one line, and it gets stronger the longer you run. Every apprentice, every office hire, every bookkeeper you give a login to is free here and is another £37 a month somewhere else. The only shape where it flips is a one or two person outfit doing a very high volume of small jobs, and I have worked that crossover through properly in the ServiceM8 versus Tradify comparison.

What is not in the sticker price

This is the part nobody writes about, and for some businesses it is bigger than the subscription.

VAT

The UK prices exclude VAT. ServiceM8's own FAQ says so, and explains that it issues reverse charge invoices for you to account for VAT to HMRC, "which in most cases you'll be able to reclaim, resulting in no net additional cost".

If you are VAT registered, that is genuinely how it works out and the sticker price is your real cost. If you are not registered, do not assume the same thing, and ask your accountant before you budget. It is a short conversation and it is not the sort of thing to guess at.

Card processing, which is usually the big one

If you take payments through ServiceM8 Pay, the UK rates start at 1.7% plus 20p per transaction, with published tiers of 1.70%, 2.10%, 2.70% and 3.45% plus 20p depending on the card your customer uses.

Do the sum on a real business. Say you invoice £8,000 a month and most of it comes in on cards across about a hundred transactions. That is somewhere between roughly £150 and £240 a month in processing fees, against a £59 subscription.

Your card fees are two to four times your software bill. Nobody mentions that when they quote you a monthly price, and it is not a criticism of ServiceM8, because every payment processor charges something. It is just the number that actually moves your P and L, and you should have it in front of you.

Texts

Texts beyond your monthly bundle are 5p each on every plan. That will not hurt you unless you are sending hundreds, and if you are, the next plan up bundles more of them.

The phone system

ServiceM8 sells a phone system as an add-on, advertised from about £15 a month. I will be straight with you here: their UK page prints two different prices for it and two different trial lengths, so I am not going to quote you a firm number. If you want it, ask them directly and get the answer in writing.

Three real monthly bills

Sticker prices are not much use on their own. Here is what three actual businesses end up paying.

What it really costs, excluding VAT.
BusinessPlanSubscriptionCard feesRoughly
Sole trader, 20 jobs, paid by bank transferFree£0None£0 to £2
Three van electrician, 120 jobs, £8k on cardsGrowing£59£150 to £240£210 to £300
Ten van firm, 450 jobs, £40k on cardsPremium£119£760 to £1,160£880 to £1,280

Look at that middle row again. The subscription is a fifth of the bill. If you want to save money on running ServiceM8, the lever is not which plan you are on, it is how your customers pay you.

And look at the top row properly, because it surprises people. A sole trader doing twenty jobs a month can run ServiceM8 for nothing. The free plan is one user, thirty jobs, and it is a real working account rather than a demo. You even earn extra job credits every time you take a card payment through it, with no cap on how many you can earn back.

The plan choice that costs people the most

Here is the mistake I would most like to save you from, because it is the one that makes people give up in week two and blame the software.

Building your own forms and certificates is gated at the Growing plan, £59 a month. So is asset management.

Picture an electrician signing up on Starter at £25 because it looks like the sensible frugal choice. Fifty jobs a month is plenty. Then they go to produce an EICR on site and find they cannot build the form. That is the single most important thing an electrician needs the software to do, and it is two tiers up from where the price comparison put them.

The same applies to anyone doing planned maintenance who needs asset histories, and to gas engineers who want their records generated in the app.

Job costing, markup billing and branded texts sit higher again, on Premium at £119.

Pick the plan on the feature, then check the job count

Everybody does this the other way round. They work out how many jobs they do, pick the matching tier, and find out later that the thing they bought it for lives higher up. Work out what you need it to actually produce first. Certificates and asset histories mean Growing at £59, whatever your job count says.

Or just have it set up right

Picking the plan is the easy half. The half that decides whether you are still using it at Christmas is whether the quote templates, job forms, checklists and automations match how you actually work. That is the bit I do, for a fixed price, in a few days.

  • £650 Setup
  • £800 Setup and training
  • £250 Training only

Year one costs a lot less than the sticker price

Two things bring the first year down a long way, and you have to pick one because they do not combine.

The New Business Special. If your business is under two years old, ServiceM8 will take 50% off your first twelve months. You email their support with an official registration document showing the date, with "New Business Special" in the subject, before you subscribe or within fourteen days of subscribing. On Growing that is £29.50 a month instead of £59, so about £354 saved across the year.

The Setup and Training Rebate. If a certified partner who is listed in ServiceM8's Partner Directory does your setup, ServiceM8 credits you 100% of what you paid that partner, capped at £1,000. It arrives as credit against your monthly bill at half your plan price until it is used up. I am certified and listed, which is what makes an invoice from me qualify.

Work that through on Growing. Half of £59 is £29.50, so £800 of credit covers about 27 months at half price. On Starter it stretches to over five years. On Premium it is around thirteen months.

So the two offers are not close. Twenty seven months at half price against twelve, and the £800 version also leaves you with a system somebody has actually built for you. And ServiceM8's own terms are explicit that an approved rebate claim replaces any active discount rather than adding to it, so anyone offering you both together has not read them. The full rebate rules, including the one mistake that voids it before you start, are here.

Do not subscribe through the iPhone app

If you subscribe to ServiceM8 through Apple's in-app purchase, through another app store, or through your Xero account, you cannot claim the rebate at all. Their terms require you to subscribe through the Online Dashboard on the website. It is silent, it is easy to do by accident on your phone, and it costs you up to £1,000.

Is it worth it

For a lot of trade businesses, yes, and the reason is not really the feature list. It is that £59 a month is roughly one hour of chargeable time, and the thing eats a great deal more than one hour a month of evening admin.

But be honest about the shape of your business first. If you are one person turning over a very high volume of small jobs, ServiceM8's job tiers will push you up the ladder faster than a per user product would, and you should check the crossover. If your whole team is on Android, read the section on that in the same article before you spend anything, because the Android app is cut down and it cannot take card payments on site.

And if the thing standing between you and a working system is that nobody has set it up round how you actually work, that is a different problem from the price. It is the one I fix.

Setup is £650, setup with training is £800, and the rebate can bring the whole lot back. Pick a package and I will get you live in a few days.

Common questions

How much does ServiceM8 cost per month in the UK?

As at 17 August 2026 there are five UK plans: Free at £0 for one user and 30 jobs a month, Starter at £25, Growing at £59, Premium at £119 and Premium Plus at £269. Every paid plan includes unlimited users. The prices exclude VAT, and ServiceM8 issues reverse charge invoices so you account for the VAT to HMRC yourself, which most registered businesses then reclaim.

Is there a free version of ServiceM8?

Yes, and it is a real one rather than a trial. The free plan gives one user 30 jobs a month at no cost, with the essential features included. You also earn extra job credits every time you take a card payment through ServiceM8, with no limit on how many you can earn in a month. For a sole trader starting out it is a genuinely good place to begin.

Does ServiceM8 charge per user?

No. Every paid plan has unlimited users, so adding staff, an apprentice or an office login costs nothing extra. What you pay for is the number of jobs you create each month, from 50 on Starter up to 1,500 or more on Premium Plus. That is the opposite of most rivals, which charge per head, and it is the main reason ServiceM8 gets cheaper the bigger your team gets.

What are the extra costs on top of the ServiceM8 subscription?

Texts beyond your monthly bundle are 5p each on every plan. Going over your job allowance is different: you keep working for another seven days, and if your billing month has not reset by then you are prompted to upgrade, because only Premium Plus publishes a price for extra jobs at 15p. The bigger cost is card processing: ServiceM8 Pay in the UK starts at 1.7% plus 20p per transaction, with published tiers up to 3.45% plus 20p depending on the card. A business taking £8,000 a month on cards can easily pay more in processing fees than in subscription.

Which ServiceM8 plan do I need for certificates like an EICR?

Growing, at £59 a month. Building your own forms and certificates is not available on the Free or Starter plans, and neither is asset management. This catches out a lot of electricians and gas engineers who sign up on Starter at £25 to keep costs down and then find they cannot produce the document that made them buy the software. Choose the plan on the feature you need, then check the job count.

Does ServiceM8 have an annual discount?

No. There is no annual billing option and no annual discount on the UK pricing page. It is monthly only. The two ways to pay less are the New Business Special, which is 50% off for twelve months if your business is under two years old, and the Setup and Training Rebate, which pays back what you spend with a certified partner. They do not combine, and the rebate is worth considerably more.

Why do I see ServiceM8 prices in dollars?

Because most of what ranks for this question is not the UK page. Google's own AI answer currently quotes a dollar range to British searchers, it renders ServiceM8's real UK page with a New Zealand title, and two large software directories list the product at US$0.00 and A$0.00 a month. ServiceM8's actual UK pricing page is in pounds and is correct. It is the layer above it that keeps getting the currency wrong.
